Measuring for Interior Shutters

They are a great choice for those who are looking for window treatments. However, to ensure that they fit correctly, you’ll need to take the time to measure your windows thoroughly. There are basically four ways to measure your windows, and the type of measurements you find most appropriate will be based upon the type of windows you have. You’ll need to choose your method for measurement based upon whether you are installing the shutters on the inside or outside of the window frame, as well as if you are using plantation or traditional shutters.

If you prefer to install them to the inside mount of your window jambs, you’ll need to use hinges that are fastened to the inside corners of the shutter. This way you can make certain that you will be able to open the louvers without any hindrances or interference from the window. You will also need to consider the type of drywall that you have to ensure that you mount the shutters in a way that will accommodate your type of wall materials, whether they are plaster or made from drywall.

You’ll need to take your measurements from the one side of the window jamb to the other. Take at least three measurements and keep the narrowest or smallest measurement to ensure that you will have an accurate fit. This will take care of the width measurement. Next you will need to measure for the height of the window. Take at least three measurements and measure from the top to the bottom of the window frame.

If you want them to fit on the outside mount then you will need to measure from the outside opening of the window jamb across to the other side. Take three measurements and record the largest measurement. This will make certain that your shutters will fit. Always follow the recommendations provided with them that you are interested in selecting to ensure a proper fit.
